What is Saju (사주)?

Saju (사주), also called the Four Pillars of Destiny (사주팔자), is a Korean astrology system that uses your birth year, month, day, and hour to create a chart of eight characters. Each pillar consists of a Heavenly Stem and Earthly Branch that map to the Five Elements — Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water.

How is Saju different from Western astrology?

Western astrology uses the position of stars and planets at birth, while Saju is based on the Chinese sexagenary cycle (천간지지) and the Five Elements (오행). Saju focuses on elemental balance and energy flow rather than zodiac constellations.

Do I need to know my exact birth time for Saju?

Your birth time makes your chart more accurate by adding the Hour Pillar, but you can still generate a meaningful three-pillar chart without it. The Day Pillar — your core identity — only requires your birth date.

What is a Day Master (일간) in Saju?

The Day Master (일간) is the Heavenly Stem of your Day Pillar. It represents your core self — your personality, decision-making style, and how you relate to others. There are 10 possible Day Masters, each tied to one of the Five Elements.
